Local interest in forming a Friends of the ABC in Queensland began in 1995 with meetings in Brisbane and drawing interest from across the State. The Queensland branch of the Friends of the ABC was incorporated in December 1995 with its own constitution. The original name persists today but, in 2016, it was formally changed to align with all State Branches, & is now known as ABC Friends (Qld).
We engage our membership through regular contact including via the quarterly newsletter and emails about significant events
In Queensland, ABC Friends is an Incorporated Association, with a volunteer Management Committee elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee is closely connected to the membership and, as a community-based organisation, ABC Friends (Qld) Inc. is wholly dependent on the support of its members. Volunteer Working Groups meet regularly.
ABC Friends (Qld) Inc. operates independently while, under the umbrella of ABC Friends National Inc., working with Friends organisations from every Australian State and Territory on national strategies and campaigns to maintain the independence and integrity of the ABC.
ABC Friends is not aligned to any political party and operates fully independently of the ABC itself.
